There are so many reasons we can become disconnected from our intuition, our inner knowing, or even our desires. Throughout our lives we may learn it’s not safe, for whatever reason, to want what we want or to follow our instincts, so over time we learn to shut that part of ourselves down. We may simply be so caught up in achieving an external idea of what success looks like, or so focused on our roles caring for others, that we lose ourselves in the process. And then when we try to figure out what it is we want, we struggle to know.
There are any number of valid reasons why this can happen. We may learn from our family of origin that we need to be a certain way, or fulfill a certain role. Perhaps we quashed our own sense of desire to receive love in that space, instead focusing on doing whatever others needed for us to be loved.
We may learn from the broader society and systems what “success” looks like, and then it can be hard to detangle that from what we actually want. There are so many factors that can get in the way of really deeply connecting with ourselves.
It’s okay if you don’t know what you want.
It’s okay if you feel disconnected from your inner knowing.
It’s also okay if you know exactly what you want and you have a strong sense of intuition.
All of this will depend so much on what you have experienced and how you have adapted to surviving and living in the world. And wherever you are now, is okay.
This week, I’m sharing a fifteen minute visualization to help you connect with your inner knowing by introducing you to your future self.
This concept of the future self is one I return to often. I have received so much guidance from my future self, my inner wise woman - as I like to refer to her. But the first step is getting to know her, developing a relationship with her, which this visualization invites you to do.
Ideally, you’ll carve out about half an hour for this so you have time to listen to the visualization and then jot down everything that comes up in a journal.
I hope you find some wisdom here.
